Water rate increase ineffective

In April, the town council approved a water rate increase of three percent per year for five years, but Town Clerk Suzie Cox said the town has not been able to build up reserves and invest because of the no-reads occurring with the new water meters.
The extra revenue was supposed to be invested in the town’s Enterprise fund to provide money for repairs and improvement projects and make up for shortfalls the past few years.

Body found along railroad

A man was found dead along the railroad tracks approximately four-and-a-half miles west of Hadsell Road Nov. 19.
Carbon County Sheriff Jerry Colson said Union Pacific Railroad employees notified him of the body at about 8 a.m.
When Sheriff’s deputies arrived they found no evidence of foul play and said it appeared the man had fallen from a train passing through the area at about 6 a.m.

Glynda Neal

Services for Glynda Neal, born Nov. 8, 1951, will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Encampment Church of Christ. A luncheon will follow. Neal died on Saturday, Nov. 24.

Wes Burgess

The Saratoga Sun has received word Wes Burgess died Saturday, Nov. 24, in Minot, N.D.
A celebration of life is pending.

Fatality in one car roll-over

Glynda K. Neal, of Encampment, died in a one-car rollover just south of Saratoga on Highway 130 Saturday night. The crash occurred just after 11 p.m.
Neal was on her way home after her shift at Kum and Go when her vehicle left the road on the right and went into a broadside slide.
Neal’s car rolled two-and a-half times before coming to rest on its roof off of the highway.

Chronic Wasting Disease found in elk on Snowy Range

Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD), a fatal neurological disease of deer, elk, and moose has been discovered in elk hunt area 10 that encompasses a portion of the Snowy Range area in the Medicine Bow National forest and surrounding private lands.

Colo. company wins Forest Service stewardship bid

Bolstering a long-term strategy to address fuel reduction and overall forest health, USDA Under Secretary Harris Sherman yesterday announced a Forest Service 10-year stewardship contract totaling $4.75 million for the Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest.
