Voices of the Valley reignites brand

Voices of the Valley (VoV) members, a citizen group formed in 2010 to facilitate community dialogue, met at Saratoga Town Hall Saturday to discuss the group’s past, present and future role in the Valley.
Significant projects came out of the first couple of years of VoV’s existence, including the Saratoga Community Garden, the Platte Valley Habitat Partnership, and the North Platte River restoration project.

Water call on tap for 2013

House District 47 Representative Jeb Steward is sounding a warning to water users in the Upper North Platte Valley to plan ahead for water use next spring and summer.
Steward said all of the weather models and forecasts indicate a warmer, drier winter producing less than adequate flows into Pathfinder Reservoir, which could prompt a call for water from the Bureau of Reclamation (Bureau).

Locals face personal, public tragedy in Casper

At about 9 a.m. Friday morning, Saratoga graduate Shaylee Burgess walked out of her classroom in the Wold Physical Science Center at Casper College to meet up with her mother at the campus library.
About 10 minutes later, police believe, Christopher Krumm, 25, of Vernon, Conn., allegedly walked into a nearby classroom, shot his father, James Krumm, 56, in the head and stabbed himself to death with a knife.

Airport Master Plan gets public flyby

The public will get a chance to weigh in on the new Airport Master Plan at three public workshops, starting next Wednesday.
The last Airport Master Plan was completed in 1998.
The purpose of the meeting is to introduce the master plan to the public and Michael Haak, of Aeroland Planning, LLC, is hoping for input from locals.

Clyde Robert Wiant

Clyde Robert Wiant passed away Nov. 23, 2012, in Oceanside, Calif. He was born Feb. 4, 1927, to Elizabeth (Nellie) Fitzgerald and Ira Goff Wiant.

Wesley Dale Burgess

orn Oct. 15, 1965, in Laramie, to Ellen and Orville Burgess and passed away Nov. 24, 2012, in Minot, N.D. Wes was raised in Rawlins and graduated from Rawlins High School in 1984. While in high school, Wes was an accomplished wrestler. He attended Casper College and received his Diesel Technician Certification in 1985. Wes worked as a diesel mechanic for several different companies throughout Wyoming over the years.

Robert Everett Hobart

Robert (Bob) Everett Hobart, born Feb. 23, 1924, died Nov. 27, 2012.
A graduate of Colorado School of Mines, Geology, Hobart was also a retired Lt. Col., USMC Reserve. He worked as a geologist for Chevron Oil Company in Denver, Colo., and retired in 1985.
