    Two new planning commissioners, Jim Beckmann and Chris Duke, were appointed at the Dec. 15 town council meeting. When councilpersons were asked about the reasoning for picking two new planning commissioners as opposed to re-appointing the current ones, Greg Cooksey and Chris Shannon, the resounding reasoning was a desire to add some new faces to the commission.     Peter Larsen passed away in Rawlins, Wyo. on Dec. 22, 2014 at the age of 94. He was born in Rawlins on May 10, 1920 to Louis Christian “Chris” Larsen and Martha Hansen Larsen, whose parents immigrated to Wyoming from Denmark in the 1880’s. Peter grew up in Rawlins with his six brothers and sisters. His father’s family owned the H. Larsen Inc. lumberyard and hardware store. He graduated from Rawlins High School.     The district Make It With Wool Contest was held Nov. 15 at the Jeffrey Center in Rawlins. Several Platte Valley residents placed in the competition.     Ambulances, new and old, were the topic of discussion at the Dec. 9 regular meeting of the South Central Wyoming Emergency Medical Service (SCWEMS) Joint Powers Board (JPB).     The Saratoga speech team took home first place at their first meet of the season at the Bobcat Invitation in Thermopolis Dec. 12. According to head coach Jacob Mickelsen, the Panther Talk Jocks had more points than even the top 3A teams. "We didn't just win the 2A category," Mickelsen said.     The Encampment boys basketball team suffered one loss over the weekend during the Dogger Invitational, but they are still ranked No. 1 in their conference with a 5-1 overall record.     The Saratoga Panthers boy’s basketball team (1-4, 1-0) braved the weather to get to the Shoshoni tournament last weekend only to lose two games. Their first scheduled game against Rocky Mountain on Friday afternoon was postponed due to the storm. Friday night the Panthers met the Shoshoni Wranglers (7-0) for the second time this season.
