After several requests to appear from the Saratoga Town Council, representatives from Black Hills Energy were in attendance at the Nov. 19 meeting of the governing body. The appearance from the utility company comes as they are installing new gas lines throughout Saratoga and gas leaks have been reported over the last few months. Wesley Beach, Saratoga native, set a world record in deadlifting at the 2019 World Association of Benchers and Deadlifters (WABDL) World Championships in Las Vegas, Nevada on Nov.13. He became interested in weight lifting when he was part of the Judo club while he was attending Saratoga High School. One of the strongest benefits I continue to get from my job as a Saratoga Sun reporter is covering sports teams in Carbon County School District No 2 (CCSD2). Living in Hanna, I am the guy who covers all the teams at Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) High School, and there is a definite attachment to the kids there as I watch them from the sidelines. The Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) High School can find this time of year tough to get to school due to the weather. Wind and snow can make it treacherous for busses to pick up students and get them back safely. Many staff members also live in one community and work in another. While the Encampment Lady Tigers were able to make it to the 1A West Conference Volleyball Tournament this year, they eventually fell in the consolation semi-finals. The silver lining to their journey was that they had made it further than they had the previous year, having fought their way into the regional tournament through a pigtail game against the Farson-Eden Lady Pronghorns. Wyoming Rural Water Association held a recent workshop on source water protection. The workshop held on Wednesday, November 20, was led by Michelle Christopher of Wyoming Rural Water. The annual Lighted Christmas Parade will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7 and will begin at Bridge Ave. and River Street as it goes through historic downtown Saratoga. The Wyoming Department of Health (WDH) is sharing five tips to help prevent foodborne illness from ruining holiday meals that feature turkey as a star attraction.
