    Masonic Lodge No. 14 in Saratoga will celebrate the 125th anniversary of its founding, and 125 years in the Valley doing charity and other works to benefit residents. The Masons will hold a cornerstone ceremony at the Masonic Temple at the corner of Second and Rochester Streets in Saratoga, and will then hold a social hour at Firewater Public House on East Main Street later that evening.     The 22nd annual Platte Valley Helping Hands (PVHH) Free Thanksgiving Dinner is coming. The dinner will be held from 12:30 to 2 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day—Thursday, Nov. 23—at St. Ann’s Parish Hall, 218 Spring Ave., Saratoga. The Thanksgiving menu includes the traditional roast turkey and dressing along with baked ham, mashed potatoes and gravy, sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, green peas, relish trays, dinner rolls, beverages and pumpkin pie for dessert.     Kristi passed away on Monday, November 6, 2017 at her home in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Kristi was born July 23, 1961 in Rawlins. She lived in Saratoga all her young life, graduating from Platte Valley High School in Saratoga in 1979. She married Gabriel Cruz in Las Vegas, Nevada on April 20, 2002. Most of her adult life she lived in Colorado. She is survived by her husband, Gabe as well as her beloved dogs Ira and Tazer of Colorado Springs.     Lifetime Elk Mountain resident and rancher, George Albert Larson, Jr., rode the best horse he ever owned over the highest ridge he ever climbed on Thursday, November 2, 2017 in Rawlins, Wyoming, at the age of 84. George was born in Hanna, Wyoming, on March 2, 1933 to George Albert, Sr. and Lillian (Makinen) Larson. He was the fourth generation to ranch on Mill Creek and was still running cows at the time of his death. He was proud of leasing cows to several young people to help them get started... Full story

    There were not many free seats available at the Riverside Town Council meeting Thursday at 6 p.m. because residents had come to discuss the recent poll on WHATFest. The council went over routine business, paid the bills and listened to the audience’s concerns.     The First Presbyterian Church will host their Annual Ecumenical Thanksgiving Service at 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 19 At the service, nonperishable foods will be collected which are then distributed to the food bank. Any monies collected during the service’s free will offering will go to the Saratoga Churches Fund. All are invited to come together to give thanks for their blessings.     I have been immersing myself in the world of spirits lately. Not the Halloween ghostie spirit type, but the culture of alcohol. A project I am working on has me coming across bits of info I have found interesting on the consumption of spirits. A lot of what I have come across, is mostly historical and not so relevant to modern times.   • Airport board can't get meeting off ground

    The regular monthly meeting of the Saratoga Airport Board was canceled due to lack of a quorum, according to an email from Saratoga Town Hall. A quorum, or minimum number of voting members of a governmental body, is required for any decisions coming out of a meeting to be legally binding. The previous night, the Saratoga Town Council discussed a large number of grants and other funds available to municipalities across the state for improvements to airport facilities from state agencies such as the Wyoming Department of Transportation, or WYDOT.... Full story

    The 14th annual lighting contest was approved by Encampment town council at their meeting Thursday that started at 7 p.m. in town hall. The minutes from Oct. 12 town council meeting were approved and bills were paid before going over the agenda for Thursday’s meeting.
