Barbara T. Wright, 74, passed away Oct. 24, 2013. She is predeceased by her father Randolph Thomas, mother Olene Thomas, and her brother Randy. Barbara is survived by her only child Thomas Foster Wright, sister-in-law Anita Thomas and numerous cousins. Barbara attended Jacksonville University and graduated with an Arts History Major. Her passion for art included travels globally to various countries with her friends Frances and Susie. Frank (Francis Noxon) Carroll, 94, died Oct. 25, 2013 surrounded by his family. A celebration of Frank’s life will be at 2 p.m., Saturday at Rick Martin Memorial Park in Riverside. In case of inclement weather, the celebration will be at the Grand Encampment Opera House. As per Frank’s request, cookies and lemonade will be served. Following recent snowfall events, fire crews are starting to burn slash piles at locations across the Medicine Bow and Routt National Forests in Wyoming and Colorado. It is estimated there are thousands of piles remaining on the two National Forests, even after several years of this type of work. Editor, Our son played his final game of football as a Saratoga Panther this past Thursday night. The night was an emotional rollercoaster. The emotions went from sadness to anxiety to disbelief, horror, hope and celebration as we watched one of the most exciting events I have seen in a long, long time. Overcoming a 26-0 deficit and winning in the final moments was quite a way to end the season and a storybook finish for the team’s seniors. The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) announced a new date for the scoping period closure for the infrastructure component environmental assessment (EA), set for the Chokecherry and Sierra Madre Wind Energy Project (CCSM). The BLM initially scheduled 30 days for comment, and the original date for the close of the scoping period was Oct. 9. Encampment resident Robert Kelly is getting more mail since U.S. Postal Service representatives visited Encampment in September. Before their visit, Kelly estimated Encampment Postmaster Wendell O’Connell returned about 50 percent of his mail to a distribution center in Cheyenne. Missoula Children’s Theatre will hold auditions Monday for its production of “Rapunzel”. Auditions will take place from 4-6 p.m. Monday at the Platte Valley Community Center theater. Dave Tatum of Platte, S.D., feels like he was welcomed into a family when he started working for Carbon County Weed and Pest. The Saratoga Lady Panthers wrapped up their 2013 season with an overall 16-12 season record. The local American Legion Auxiliary of Saratoga covered charitable contributions and upcoming events at their most recent meeting Oct. 15. Membership stands at 33 members with 10 more needed to meet the first milestone by Nov. 11. Ladies should get their dues paid so the goal can be made early this year. Make it with Wool will honor a longtime advocate for the program who died earlier this year from a rare disease. Roxana Johnson was a huge advocate in Carbon County for agriculture, sewing, 4-H and other activities in her community, said Charlene Abbott, Roxana's friend.
