The facility’s Activity program is based on residents’ interest and allows residents to achieve a greater level of self-esteem. Further, it provides residents with continuing contact with the community because of the many volunteers that assist residents as they enjoy activities at the facility. The people of Saratoga have spoken in the surveys for the master plan, and Saratoga Mayor Ed Glode saw the biggest problems named by residents—cleaning up the junk in yards and flood control. “We have a nuisance ordinance on the books and we’ve talked to the town attorney,” Glode said of noticeable trash around town. “I think we’re going to revise that before we start a huge campaign. The Saratoga Community Garden will receive $19,924 for agricultural experiments and data collection in 2016 from the United States Department of Agriculture. One project will compare three types of garden beds. A hügelkultur bed will be constructed from an inner core of logs and wood scrap which is covered with dirt and humus.
