The Encampment Lady Tigers traveled to Laramie Friday to take on the sophomore teams from two much larger schools, Laramie and Cheyenne South. The Tigers handily defeated both teams in back-to-back sweeps. Against Laramie, the Lady Tigers delivered a one-two knockout with scores of 25-17 and 25-18. Against Cheyenne, the team again swept their rivals 25-15 in both games of the match. Against Laramie, the team killed 19 times and had 36 digs. The Saratoga Lady Panthers had a difficult day Friday as they faced off against top-ranked 1A team and conference rival Rattlers of Little Snake River Valley School in Baggs. As the team rapidly approached the make-or-break point of the season with state finals only a month away, the Lady Panthers gave up the match in three games. Two homes in Saratoga were demolished Friday afternoon after the town forwarded complaints it received from residents to the property owner. The two homes near the corner of Fourth and Saratoga Streets were demolished, and cleanup of the lots began immediately thereafter. According to Town of Saratoga Zoning Officer Dan Ferrin, the town had received complaints about the state of the properties and had forwarded those complaints to the owner in a letter. According to Biff Burton, game warden for Wyoming Game and Fish, this year the agency is taking steps to track the spread of Chronic Wasting Disease, or CWD, a disease that is affecting deer, elk and moose in Wyoming and neighboring Colorado. Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) High School had a lockdown drill to prepare the staff and students for such a situation. The Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) Miners football team was not the first team to score when they met the Lingle Doggers football team, but when the game was over, the Miners showed they are team to be reckoned with. The Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) High School Lady Miners met the Guernsey Lady Vikings for the second time this season and won the match decisively. A slow start may have plagued the Saratoga Panthers football team yet again during its outing in Fremont County to take on the Shoshoni Wranglers, but that didn’t stop the team from coming back and taking their second conference win. After finding themselves down 12-0 in the first quarter, the Panthers pulled things together and went on to outscore the Wranglers 32-8 during the rest of the game, defeating Shoshoni 32-20. Saratoga Middle/High School's cross country team hit the ground running at the Wheatland Invitational Friday, taking top-ranked finishes for the runners, and earning the top team ranking at the event.
