For those with significant medical needs it is particularly difficult to establish care with a new and unknown provider. Or in a new and unknown health care system. While the Encampment Lady Tigers had a rough few weekends recently, they finally had some wins to celebrate as they had a 2-0 weekend. Encampment travelled to face off against the Laramie Lady Plainsmen Sophomores (25-18, 25-12, 25-19) on Friday and hosted the Rock River Lady Longhorns (22-25, 25-20, 26-24, 14-25, 15-11) on Saturday. On Friday, after the impressive win of the Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) Miner football team, the residents of Hanna got to watch the Lady Miner volleyball team handily beat the Guernsey-Sunrise Lady Vikings. Eva and Dan West were honored as this year's Super Fans for Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) High School for homecoming at halftime on Friday at the Miner football game. Kay Grant has been educating students on life of the early pioneers and the Plains Indians culture for 13 years. She does this in a variety of ways, from using actual stone instruments used in day-to-day life to games and toys the children played with. She has a buffalo hide that has been on display for its tenth year and she has students scrape off a little hair with stone tools. On Thursday, Sept. 20, Saratoga Middle/High School (SMHS) students and staff presented a check for $25,000 to the Corbett Medical Foundation to go towards helping Valley residents diagnosed with cancer. The donation came out of the $32,500 raised by the students of SMHS and members of SkillsUSA in 2018, led by Saratoga technology teacher Scott Bokelman. Following the public notice in the Sept. 25 issue of Rawlins Times that the current provider of the Platte Valley Medical Clinic, Dr. Bryan Kaiser, would be closing his practice on Oct. 19, concern swept the Valley. A second notice ran in the Oct. 3 issue of the Rawlins Times with an altered date of Oct. 24.
