  • A clinical diagnosis

    Keith McLendon|Sep 12, 2018

When a business has burned through nearly half a million dollars and is still not on track, it is normally time to rethink that particular business model. This is the case the with the Platte Valley Medical Clinic (Clinic). Since August 2017 the Clinic has gone through $499,228 in subsidies and more has been requested. Most of those costs are normal business costs for a clinic. A $5,000 moving allowance and a $10,000 signing bonus are normal in recruiting a new doctor. Some costs do not make...

Plastics and recycling was, again, a prime issue of discussion at the regularly scheduled meeting of the Upper North Platte River Solid Waste Disposal District (UPRSWDD) at 7 p.m. on Sept. 5 at the Encampment/Riverside Branch Library. With Doug and Jennifer Duplisea, Richard Hodges and prospective member Schelby Merrill in attendance, the public nearly outnumbered the board members. Buckingham and her family moved to Rawlins in 1972 when her husband, who worked for the highway department, was transferred there from Burgess Junction, Wyo. • Down by the old live stream

    Joshua Wood|Sep 12, 2018

“He’s working the retail politics hard, cracking wise at every picnic and barbecue from Cody to Cheyenne and engaging in the occasional barroom debate, including one at the Bear Trap Cafe & Bar in Riverside, where he went mano a mano with two Democrats and a painting of Liz Cheney propped up in a chair, live-streamed on video by the local newspaper.” ~ GQ Magazine “The Pro-Environment Republican Trying to Take Down Liz Cheney” To be honest, I had no idea that the Saratoga Sun was going to...

  • The ideal doctor

    Sep 12, 2018

Dear Editor, “The ideal is full time doc (doctor), that’s the ideal” said Rude, Director of Health Management Services (HMS). Sooo if that is the ideal, why would Saratoga want to hire HMS to provide less than the ideal when Saratoga CURRENTLY HAS THE IDEAL DOCTOR. So what will you get from HMS? Rude said, “If a provider, doctor provider, is available to cover the time and if the patient load can justify the expense of a doctor to cover the time and we can break even and make profit, then I’m absolutely good with that.” A possible translation...

Dear Editor, My congratulations to the UPRSWDD (Platte Valley Landfill District) for winning the Wyoming Solid Waste and Recycling Association (WSWRA) award for recycling for populations under 5,000 for 2018. Congratulations also goes to the citizens and businesses of this landfill district for making this award possible with their support of our recycling efforts in Saratoga and Encampment over the last 10 years. We have come a long way in 20 years, from no recycling at all in 1995 when I arrived here, to a new recycling building equipped...

  • Trying to regroup

    Joshua Wood|Sep 12, 2018

The Encampment Lady Tigers had another rough weekend as they dealt with losses to the Hanna, Elk Mountain and Medicine Bow (HEM) Lady Miners on the road and conference rivals the Little Snake River Valley (LSRV) Lady Rattlers at home. The loss to LSRV marks the second home game conference loss early in the season for the Lady Tigers. While the losses could be tough for Tiger Nation to handle, a positive take away from both games is that the 2-3 loss to HEM (20-25, 25-17, 22-25, 25-22, , 10-15)...

  • Fatigue versus Farson

    Mike Armstrong|Sep 12, 2018

The Saratoga football team played Farson-Eden, the number one ranked six man team, on Friday. Panthers coach Logan Wright was extremely pleased with how his players performed though he acknowledged the score didn’t indicate the intensity of the game. “If you look at the final score, it doesn’t depict how the game went in my eyes,” Wright said. “We didn’t beat Farson but we sure scared them for two-and-a-half quarters.” The Panthers defense kept the Pronghorns scoreless the first quarter while Sa...
