The Saratoga High School (SHS) girls' volleyball team got off to a strong start Aug. 26 and 27, winning three of their first four matches of the season at a round-robin tournament held in Saratoga. About 40 spectators watched as the Panthers won against Hanna Elk Mountain (HEM), Guernsey-Sunrise and Dubois. The Panthers' only loss came against Big Piney on Friday. Sonja L. Hamblin passed away Aug. 23, 2016 in Elko, Nev. She was born March 28, 1938 in Laramie. She was raised in Laramie and attended Beauty School there. She married Ross Hamblin in 1968 and moved to Saratoga shortly after. After spending almost 20 years in Saratoga, the mining industry brought Sonja and Ross to Elko, Nev. Earlier this summer, over 10,000 trout got helicopter rides to their new homes in Snowy Range Mountain lakes. According to a press release from the Wyoming Game and Fish Department (WGFD), the agency stocked several alpine lakes in Medicine Bow National Forest this way for the benefit of back country anglers. A run of eight and a half happy but hectic years managing the Bear Trap Cafe in Riverside is coming to a close for Seattle-native Margaret Weber. As a University of Wyoming Extension Educator, I enjoy the opportunity to travel throughout our state during every season of the year. Saratoga Elementary School (SES) teacher Nancy Windholz was honored with an award by President Barack Obama for outstanding teaching of math. Windholz was honored by students, fellow teachers and members of the school board at an assembly Friday at the SES gym. At the Green River Invitational Cross Country meet, “We had four guys run faster than our top guy ran last year,” said Saratoga cross country coach Rex Hohnholt. Twenty-six bullriders competed in Saturday night's 2016 Saratoga Bullfest, with only one man riding in both the long and short rounds. Zeke Mora, of Colorado, walked away from Buck Springs arena with over $12,000 of prize money and a trophy buckle after he was the only bullrider to ride his bulls during Saturday's event.
