The franchise agreement between the town of Saratoga and Carbon Power and Light (CP&L) is a done deal. Word has been received of the death of Billy Bachman on Aug. 16, 2014 in Frankston, Texas. He was born Nov. 20, 1923 in Fort Collins, Colo. Bachman was a brand inspector in the Saratoga and Encampment area in the late 60s and early 70s. After leaving the Valley in 1974, the family moved to Socorro, N.M. He was a national cattle inspector with Oppenheimer Industry in Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada, Arizona, California and the Big Bend area of Texas. The Saratoga planning commission did not have enough board members for a quorum at their Aug. 12 meeting. In Saratoga, Encampment and surrounding Platte Valley areas, 1,061 voters participated in the primary elections on Aug. 12. The primary had around a 46 percent voter turnout in Carbon County. More than 80 quilts will be displayed at the Pieces of History Quilt Show Friday and Saturday at the Platte Valley Community Center.
