The Saratoga Water and Sewer Joint Powers Board (sewer board) met Wednesday to deal with routine business, but the long-running issue of the sewer line running under Hwy 30 that is causing issues for local business owners became murkier as Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) waded into the fray. A new fire burned about 30 acres four miles east of Hog Park Reservoir in Wyoming as of 10 a.m. Tuesday, a Forest Service news release said. The Broadway Fire, as it is being called, is believed to have ignited within the last week, and was discovered Aug.14. Saratoga Middle School will be holding a parent and player volleyball meeting 6:30 p.m. Aug. 23 in the Saratoga Middle/High school library. Saratoga Elementary School (SES) students returning to school next week will get to enjoy a newly-renovated playground, and staff at the school will enjoy no more headaches any time it rains. The playground at the school received a makeover during the summer. Students will get a new, high tech rubberized ground covering and colorful games and educational designs baked onto the pavement. The Saratoga Planning Commission will have a full plate for some time to come. In an Aug. 9 meeting attended by about 10 individuals, the commission voted in favor of a rezone request put in by Trivest Enterprises and devoted the remainder of their two-hour meeting to laying out goals for the year ahead. A Rawlins volunteer firefighter was injured Saturday during the demolition derby held at the Carbon County fair after a car competing in the event crashed over a dirt berm and tore through a gate. The firefighter received a large laceration on her arm after it was caught between a gate and the back of a truck she was sitting near, according to acting fire chief John Rutherford. 8:30 p.m. Aug. 17 A police chase that began in Nebraska ended in a foot pursuit on I-80 at Walcott Junction Wednesday. Troy Douglas, 23, Of Nashville, Tenn., was arrested after leading police on a chase, disabling his car and pointing a gun at an officer before attempting to flee on foot. According to David Wagener of Wyoming Highway Patrol, the chase began early Wednesday morning in Nebraska. Nebraska police chased the suspect, but quit the pursuit when the suspect fled into Wyoming.
