Pam and Scott Thayer are well known in Rawlins and Carbon County for their work and volunteer efforts. Chuck was born October 7, 1937, in Rawlins, Wyoming, to Charles J. Jessie Cecil James, 83, was born February 19th, 1939 in Denver, Colorado. Parents, Fred and Ethel James lived on Beaver Creek, south of Riverside, but travelled to Denver for Jesse's birth. Jesse lived with grandparents on Beaver Creek Ranch during WWII while parents worked in defense plants in Tacoma, Washington. Recently the Hanna Recreation Center hosted 150 young adults and 50 adults on their way to a competition in Indianapolis. The group was the Santa Clara Vanguard Drum and Bugle Corps (Vanguard). The Hanna Rec Center was suggested by a town employee in Medicine Bow when Vanguard explained their reservations in Laramie had been messed up and were looking for a place to stay and had two days to find a place. The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation-Platte Valley Chapter held its 31st Annual Fundraising banquet and auction at the Platte Valley Community Center on August 6th. Approximately 90 people attended and enjoyed food and fun while supporting a very important organization. The Town of Encampment sponsored a tasty barbeque and lots of goodies on August 6. The music from "Pert Near Sandstone musicians, Sipe and Kniebel, J Lenz, Justin Bruhn and Matt Cartier gave us a taste of folksy, Americana style music with a modern twist. Due to sound system issues the band moved down on to the grass and gave us all a wonderful show. The little ones got into the act as well when Matt Cartier, the fiddle player showed off his clogging prowess....
