Some Saratoga residents experienced higher than usual water bills due to computer software compatibility issues in Saratoga Town Hall. “There are still some issues between the two — the billing software and the meter reading software,” Schwerdt said. After a long battle with cancer and surrounded by his loving family, Robert “Bob” Vorn, 73, passed away at Ivinson Memorial Hospital in Laramie, June 13. Bob was born June 2, 1940 in Rawlins to Nick and Katarina Vorn. He spent his childhood and early teen years growing up in Rawlins, where he attended school through his sophomore year. Brent Shay Carpenter, 74, passed away at his home in Wellton, Ariz. July 7, 2013. Brent was born April 4, 1939 in Longmont, Colo., to Roscoe M. and Nell T. Carpenter. He grew up in Saratoga and attended Saratoga schools. He resided in Rawlins until 1990, when he moved to Cheyenne with UPRR, eventually retiring after 30 years, then moving to Wellton. Richard Lealand Allen, 76, passed away at his home in Riverside on July 11, 2013. He was born July 19,1936 in Greeley, Colo. He grew up in Denver and attended Manual High School. He served three years in the Army as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division. On Jan. 5, 1957 he married Patricia Lucille Thomas whom he met in the seveth grade. Glenva Dorene Watkins (or “Sue” as she often preferred) was born to Glen and Burnice Everist June 20, 1926 in Cedar Bluffs, Kan. Glenva passed away June 26, 2013. When her mother died in her early life, Glenva was cared for by her extended family. She was a member of the Class of 1944, graduating from Saratoga High School in Saratoga. After last weekend’s rodeo, I have a new respect for bullfighters and rodeo clowns. The first time I went to a rodeo was in 1996 at Cheyenne Frontier Days. I was told that once I had seen that rodeo, I would be bored by all the others. Nothing could be further from the truth. Editor: In response to questions about the water bills that you received this past week, I know that there were a lot of mad and frustrated customers after receiving their bills. We are frustrated as well and are working hard to get the problems corrected. Part of the issues are contractor-related as we found that many of the pits were not set up properly to transmit readings to the town hall. Editor: On June 18 I was invited to attend the first semi-public performance of the Elk Mountain Community Youth Choir. This was the group’s second performance. The first was attended by the parents. Dawn Kenneda, director, explained that this was her way to expose the youth to public performance in steps so as not to overwhelm them. A young black bear reported being seen in several areas of Saratoga may not have a favorable future, according to the Saratoga Game Warden. The black bear, estimated to be 1 or 2 years old was first spotted at the Saratoga Resort and Spa the evening of July 5. General public feedback prompted the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to consider revising its Recreation Area Management Plan (RAMP) for North Platte River area land and campgrounds. BLM Outdoor Recreation Planner Christopher Jones said the RAMP changes are preferred alternatives not set in stone, and the BLM is considering certain revisions and researching proposals.
