On April 25, 2020, Saratoga, Wyoming, resident Edna Lyle (Hyatt) Makinen, affectionately called “Howdy” by her family, passed away peacefully in her sleep at the Saratoga Care Center at the age of 101. Lyle was born on June 15, 1918, to Sherman and Edna (Hart) Hyatt in Telluride, Colorado. She was one of five children. Memorial Hospital of Carbon County (MHCC) has updated its visitor policy, which had originally been put in place during the initial arrival of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in Carbon County and Wyoming. Effective as of June 16, the policy allows one visitor per patient in the hospital. The Hanna Landfill will close June 27 as a general dump for the towns of Elk Mountain, Hanna and Medicine Bow. To get the job done, roughly two dozen contractors went out to the landfill on Thursday to survey what needed to be accomplished for the closure. After looking over the landfill bids were submitted. The Hanna Agricultural Resource Team (HART) met at 9 a.m. on June 13 at the Hanna Basin Museum to work on the historical tea garden the group had offered to create for the museum. Members Linda Goodrich and Rose Dabbs have looked at compiled lists of flowers and pictures of English gardens that were once common in Hanna during the turn of the 20th century over the past year. The Board of Carbon County Commissioners (BOCCC) approved four firework applications during their June 16 meeting, but not without some discussion in regards to equitable enforcement of the process. On Wednesday June 17, 2020 Citizens Organized to see Violence Ended (COVE) held a meet and greet for volunteers. The turn out was better than expected with not only volunteers from Rawlins, but Saratoga as well. COVE has not had volunteers for the past 13 years and is looking for people to help out.
