The Oak Ridge Boys have a history that stretches back to the late 40s when the band was known as the Georgia Clodhoppers, according to Sterben. The band played so often near the nuclear research facility at Oak Ridge the band's name was changed to the Oak Ridge Quartet. In 1961, that name changed to the Oak Ridge... Full story

  • Appreciating my two dads

    Jun 21, 2017

I was blessed to have two fathers raise me. Given that Father’s Day just happened, it feels right to do a column on them. They were different in many ways, but in other manners, they shared common traits. My biological father William Oliver Armstrong was a southern boy dairy farmer from a tiny town in Virginia. He was the youngest member in his congregation at age 10 to find his Christian beliefs that were always a part of him. My father never talked about his salary or financial assets to my sister or me, but we knew he gave one third of h... Full story
