    Local American Legion Post 54 and Platte Valley Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6125 (VFW) will hold memorial services Monday for those who died while serving in the United States of America Armed Forces. The American Legion will be placing flags on veterans’ graves Friday May 27 at 4 p.m., said Deb Clark, adjutant for the American Legion. Also on Friday, VFW members will put up the Avenue of Flags in the Encampment Cemetery and in the Mountain View Cemetery east of Riverside, said VFW Commander Liz Wood.     A blown head gate on Silver Spur property has required an emergency mitigation response. A UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter has been on hand to help out the Wyoming Office of Homeland Security (WOHS) and Wyoming National Guard as well as responders from the Saratoga Volunteer Fire Department and Swiftwater Rescue.     Mary Alice Sjoden, 85, of Saratoga passed away peacefully at home, with her children by her side May 16, 2016. She was born May 30, 1930 to Clarence and Winifred Shaw in Rawlins, Wyo. The family moved to Saratoga, Wyo. in 1935. Mary attended the Saratoga schools graduating from Platte Valley High School in 1948.   • Highway work starts May 23

    According to a news release from the Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT), traffic on the HWY 130 bridge in Saratoga will be reduced to one lane starting on May 23. The lane closure will allow workers to make repairs to the bridge. Flaggers will be on each end of the bridge controlling traffic while crews complete repairs. One lane of alternating traffic will be allowed to cross the bridge at a time, and the speed limit will be reduced to 10 mph in the work zone. Motorists should expect 10 to 15 minute delays.     Encampment High School girls saw two individual second place, all-state finishers in Paige Powell, with her triple jump of 33’5.50” and Cheyanne Jordan, with a shot put throw of 33’10”. The girls 4x800 meter run team, Cassidy Little, Micaiah Pantle, Ashlynn Johnson and McKenzie Powell also took second place with a time of 10:51.65.     Of the 11 athletes Saratoga High School (SHS) sent to compete at the 2A State Track Meet in Casper, 10 got recognition at the award podium. Though she didn't place this year, coach Rex Hohnholt said that Shianne Baker excelled as well, marking "great times for a freshman (in her 100 and 200 meter dash races)." The May 19-21 Casper meet marked the last time the Panthers team will compete at the 2A level.     By Max Miller Since May 9, six Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) workers from Saratoga and a mechanic from Rawlins have been working 10 hour days in sub-freezing conditions to get the HWY 130 scenic byway ready for summer traffic.
