On Monday, the local American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) will be holding memorial services to honor those who died while serving in the United States of America Armed Forces. American Legion Post 54 will hold traditional services along with a 21-gun salute at 11 a.m. Monday. Patricia Corpening, 87, of Saratoga, passed away May 13, 2015. Funeral services were held at the First Presbyterian Church in Saratoga, Monday. Interment followed at the Saratoga Cemetery. Patricia Anderson Corpening was born Oct. 26, 1927 in Roland, Iowa to Ove O. Anderson and Anne (Ristesund) Anderson. She married Howard Corpening on May 23, 1953 in Elko, Nev. The Saratoga Encampment Rawlins Conservation District (SERCD) employees as well as Jay Schug, project manager for Anderson Consulting Engineers, held an open house for the Upper Platte River Watershed Study (UPRWS) from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. on May 12 at the USDA Service Center. By the end of the month, if all goes as planned, the nursing home formerly known as Valley View and Deseret Health and Rehab will be under new management. According to Kim Deti, information officer for the Wyoming Department of Health (WDH), a lease agreement between Deseret Health Group and Health Management Services has been reached. Five years ago, Whistle Pig Saloon owner Chuck Davidson invited some friends to come over to the area behind his bar and play in the mud for what would become the first annual Pig Digger mud rally. The rally has grown over the years to include up to 30-40 cars across several different classes. At the Water and Sewer meeting on May 13, the board decided the northern route up from the sewer lagoon that turns west would be the route they will pursue for the intended treated wastewater sewer line. Saratoga High School track coach Rex Hohnholt was happy with the fact that many of his athletes had personal bests Friday and Saturday at regionals in Sheridan. Hohnholt said the personal best helps the athletes to get mentally prepared for state. “It’s that cream of the crop that is going to state,” Hohnholt said. Encampment Tigers Track coach Kegan Willford wasn’t surprised when McKenzie Powell broke the school record last weekend at the regional track meet in Lander, but he was surprised by how fast she ran. The competition was good, Willford said, and it was windy for Lander – at about 10 to 15 miles per hour.
