    Jan. 18 and Jan. 19 The Saratoga Middle School (SMS) girls A basketball team won big in the month of January. The girls defeated Wamsutter by a score of 55-17. The leading scorer was Meredith Lincoln with 17 points. Lincoln also had four rebounds, three steals and four assists. Katie Loose had 8 points, three rebounds, six steals and six assists.     In a game that came down to the wire, Saratoga beat Encampment, 43-41. There were seven lead changes in this game and the score was tied numerous times. Both teams played very well and this was a great basketball game to end the regular season play.     The Lady Panthers finished regular season play against their Valley rivals, the Encampment Lady Tigers, Saturday night in the Panther Den. The Ladies played the “Pink Panther game” for breast cancer awareness. Heather Oxford came out fired up with a block and a steal to hamper Encampment’s offensive effort.     Little Snake River Valley (LSRV) (20-2), (7-0) will remain number one in the Boys 1A southwest conference, and Encampment (14-5), (6-2) will go into the regional bracket as number two. LSRV came out on top of a low scoring defensive battle, 28-37. In the first quarter, A.J. Kuster was able to play some great defense keeping Encampment close.     Improving his time on the track by 49 seconds, Wade Swingle, with his team, Deuces Wild, took home the Dave Pennock “Good Times” Trophy and the Interstate Traveling Trophy for the second year in a row from the Donald E. Erickson Memorial Chariot Races.     Among a group of young outriders was a man who has been working the Chariot Races longer than the other four riders have been living. Larry Gomez has been working the Chariot Races for 33 years. He started when he was 33, and has missed only one race and that is when his brother-in-law died. Being an outrider is not an easy job.     The Upper Valley Search & Rescue sold 258 hands Sunday at Ben Romios Memorial Poker Run. “It (the poker run) gets bigger every year,” said organizer Cory Nuhn. “We have tremendous sponsors and supporters.” With an added purse from Silver Spur Ranches, winners were able to take home a little more money.
