Sunday’s weather may have hurt the town’s access to water. As of Tuesday morning, all five Variable Frequency Drives (VFD), which enable water wells to pump water, have stopped working . Three of the well pumps are pulling over average, meaning that they are totally non-functional. As auctioneer Cody Waldrip rattled off bids and the horses raced down the track, hundreds trudged through the mud and the wind to witness the 34th annual Donald D. Erickson Memorial Chariot Races this past weekend. The event began Friday night at the Hotel Wolf with the first round of the Calcutta Auction. Auctioning continued track side between each of Saturday’s and Sunday’s 10 races. Proceeds from the auctions went to benefit the Saratoga Lions Club. Town Engineer Chuck Bartlett said that the town has made solid progress with their portion of the North Platte River Restoration Project. Bartlett claims that he has compiled an exhaustive list of contact information for people who live alongside the river. Despite a complete list, Bartlett or the town of Saratoga have not made any contact with residents. The airport board is finally back up in the air after six months without a formal meeting. As Jennifer Hamilton and Bobby Chitwood joined the ranks of board members, the Saratoga Airport held their monthly meeting on Feb. 12. The board realigned officers for the new board. Everyone seems to think that I am going to write my column this week about my new grandson. Well, he is special and he is my first grandchild, but being only two weeks old, I am not sure I can write 500 words or more about being a grandmother or having a new baby to hold and kiss. Saratoga hosted U.S. Senator John Barrasso (R-Wyo) Monday. Barrasso took a tour of the Saratoga Forest Management Mill meeting with its staff and the owners. The town of Saratoga planning commission spent the majority of their Feb. 11 meeting examining their bylaws. Board members were asked to compile a list of revisions at their last meeting on Jan. 11 meeting. They selected items from other town planning commission bylaws. The Saratoga/Carbon County Impact Joint Powers Board held their regular scheduled meeting Feb. 12. Town Engineer Chuck Bartlett said that phase two of their loan application for the Waste Water project went out two weeks ago, but the town is still working on the environmental assessment of the project. The U.S. Forest Service and Wyoming State Forestry Division recently released results of Wyoming’s annual aerial forest health survey, indicating that the spread of the mountain pine beetle epidemic has slowed dramatically while the spruce beetle outbreak continues at low levels. Jennifer Hamilton and Bobby Chitwood bring their aeronautic experience to the board in order to help improve Shively Airfield.
