Winter will meet with the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality (WDEQ) to continue a discussion on the sewer outfall project, which has been a controversial topic since its initial approval in Sept. 2013. This meeting and discussion could mean that the current wastewater outfall, which involves dumping in Hot...

  • End it on a high note

    Erik Gantt|Feb 17, 2016

I’ve had a good run during my time at the Sun. But, all good things must come to an end … so they say. In a scenario I could not have envisioned even a month ago, an opportunity that would take me away from journalism presented itself in a way that made me think “This is the new path I should take. This is where I can do the most good right now.” I am leaving the Saratoga Sun to take over as Interim Director of the Saratoga Museum. It was not an easy choice and the decision was made during...

  • Dog park not a free ride

    Feb 17, 2016

Do you use the dog park? If the answer is yes, now is your time to shine. The Kaake Walk Dog Park in Saratoga needs volunteers to deal with the worst snow Saratoga has seen in years. The park was founded in 2002 with land donated by the town, but was set up to be maintained by a volunteer force according to Director of Public Works Jon Winter. Currently two octogenarians, Ruth and Leon Hetherington have been doing the bulk of winter maintenance. We want you to picture a woman with hip trouble and a man on oxygen hacking away at icy snow drifts...

  • So long, thanks for the chance

    Feb 17, 2016

Editor, There are only a few people who have changed the course of my life, and Liz Wood is one of them. Almost three years ago, I was a senior in college armed only with a liberal arts degree and a determination to not go home and live with my parents. I sent out around 50 resumes to papers all over the country. I got calls back on three job listings. Two of those phone calls replied with a “thanks, but no thanks.” But Liz, she gave me a shot. There was no place better for me to learn than at the Saratoga Sun — especially under Liz’s leaders...

On Page 7 of the Feb. 10 edition of the Saratoga Sun the points scored in the Lady Panthers game against Pine Bluffs were reported incorrectly. Apparently Erik Gantt cannot read the statistics provided so dutifully by Kelly Horn. Meredith Lincoln scored 14 points and Sarah Burton scored 9 points during the Feb. 7 game. We apologize for the error. Go Lady Panthers!...

  • Encampment boys ranked No. 1 in conference week before regionals

    Liz Wood|Feb 17, 2016

This week marks the end of the regular season for the Encampment Tigers (5-0 conference, 16-1 overall) and barring any unseen upsets, they will be entering into to post season as the No. 1 seed at regionals Feb. 25-27. With one conference game left this week against the Little Snake River Valley (LSRV) Rattlers (1-3, 6-12 one score missing), it should prove to be an interesting game in Baggs Friday night, as the Rattlers will surely do their best to upset the Encampment Tigers. If numbers are...

Noelle Peterson and Cassidy Little each added 12 points to the board, while Alyssa...

  • Health issues plague wrestlers

    Madeline Weiss|Feb 17, 2016

"We're limping into regionals a little bit with illness, injuries and some wrestlers fighting grades," said Saratoga Boys Wrestling Head Coach Jared Mason. With many of the boys either recovering or currently out of commission, Mason described last weekend at the Carbon County Invite in Hanna as kind of a rough one, with only three wrestlers competing for the duration of the tournament. Daynon Mowry is out on concussion protocol, and Jaxon King struggled through one match Friday afternoon...

  • Girls get their groove back

    Erik Gantt|Feb 17, 2016

The Lady Panthers split their home games last week, but their defense was on point. Adding to their strongest defensive play of the year, Meredith Lincoln had an outstanding Friday afternoon leading the team to a 53-36 victory of Hanna-Elk Mountain- Medicine Bow (HEM). It should be noted that the HEM Lady Miners (2-1 conference, 8-9 overall) honored the sport by presenting a letter in support of Saratoga Lady Panthers (2-6, 5-11) Head Coach Scott Bokelman during his cancer treatment. The HEM...

    Erik Gantt|Feb 17, 2016

While the Saratoga Panthers took two losses this weekend, the boys varsity squad battled to the end, just as they have done all season. "I've never coached or been around a team that has faced as much adversity this year's with injuries and other things. I've never been prouder of a team as I have been with these boys," Coach Jason Williams said, reflecting on last week's games. On Friday, the Panthers (0-6 conference, 1-16 overall) came out with energy and intensity against the Hanna-Elk...
