Adrenaline was pulsing through the veins of horses and skiers this weekend as the Saratoga Lions Club hosted the sixth annual Saratoga Skijoring Races at Buck Springs Arena this weekend. Eighty-seven teams were entered into the race for each day. Patricia (Pat) Wilson Bensen passed away on Friday, January 28, 2022 in Reno, Nevada. She was born on August 8, 1938 in Saratoga, Wyoming to Roy E. and Mildred Woody Wilson. Pat spent the majority of her life in Saratoga. For many years she and her husband Len operated Len’s Sport Shop. A Casper, Wyoming resident recently died following a snowmobile accident near Ryan Park. The passing of the resident, identified as 64-year-old Sherry Volker, came after the Carbon County Sheriff’s Office received a call at approximately 11:43 a.m. on January 28. The initial report, according to a press release from the Carbon County Sheriff’s Office, was that Volker had driven off trail and hit a tree on Forest Service Road 225. Craig Conrad, an author and motivational speaker, came to Hanna on February 2 to speak to the entire student body at Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) Junior/Senior High. Then on February 3, Conrad went to Hanna Elementary to talk to the youngsters. Later that evening, a community dinner was held at HEM with Conrad speaking afterwards. The Platte Valley Arts Council (PVAC) recently announced their plans for public art displays throughout the Platte Valley. The pieces will feature local artists and include murals and sculptures depicting local life and culture. The Saratoga Panther grapplers took to the mats at the Greybull Invite on February 4 and 5 and saw both team and individual placings. To start the weekend, the Panthers picked up a team win over Greybull-Riverside with a score of 40-30. The week started out well for the Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) Lady Miner when they faced the Midwest Lady Oilers in a makeup game on January 31.
