  • Soto: The Institution

    Mike Armstrong|Jan 19, 2022

Class, integrity and character. These are words not often found in this day and age when describing individuals, but there is a man known by just about anyone who has met him to have these attributes. His name is Dario Soto, but to most-friend, student, player, parent or colleague-he is known respectfully as Mr. Soto. After coaching basketball for nearly 60 years, Mr. Soto finished his coaching career on January 11 at Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) High School on the court which bears...

The Carbon County Sheriff’s Department is handling various reports of damage from residents. Encampment Chief of Police Kevin Shue is also on regular patrol and on duty in town. • Business as usual

    Micky Jones|Jan 19, 2022

The Encampment Town Council’s January 13 meeting was full of activity, though it all moved rather quickly. Heard at the meeting was a letter of interest for South Central Wyoming Emergency Medical Services (SCWEMS) Joint Powers Board. The 35th Annual Sierra Madre Winter Carnival held four spots in the new business section of the agenda, along with 2022 recreation board ideas appearing on the list as well. • Who's conflicted?

    Joshua Wood|Jan 19, 2022

Who does and who does not have a conflict of interest was at least one highlight of discussion during the January 12 meeting of the Saratoga-Carbon County Impact Joint Powers Board (SCCIJPB). As the relationship between the Saratoga Town Council and the joint powers board appear to grow strained month-after-month, tensions have risen in the monthly meeting of the water and sewer joint powers board. During the most recent meeting, accusations regarding conflicts of interest were levied at the...

  • A familiar face at Saratoga Museum

    Mike Armstrong|Jan 19, 2022

Carbon County is blessed with seven museums. They range in size and what they offer to the public. All of them share the goal of archiving and saving the culture of the area around them for future generations. Being a director of a museum is not an easy job. There is a lot of responsibility in receiving, cataloging and displaying items when they come in. It takes a special person to be a director and recently the Saratoga Museum had to go on a hunt to find one. It took a little time, but on...

"We had two really good games this weekend. I was pleased with how the girls played, especially in the Rock River game,"said Head Coach Heather Bartlett. "Whitney...

  • HEM girls work to dig out wins

    Mike Armstrong|Jan 19, 2022

"The girls play hard and with heart," Jackie Jones, Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) Lady Miners head coach, said. "But quite frankly, after playing well and hard, they just ran out of gas." Jones is talking about the two losses the HEM Lady Miners suffered against the Saratoga Lady Panthers (52-27) and the Farson-Eden Lady Pronghorns (33-22). "We are never looking for sympathy, but our kids are playing to the buzzer and they don't complain and just keep working," Jones said. "On the...

  • Miner grapplers hit the road

    Mike Armstrong|Jan 19, 2022

“They changed the Don Runner Invite from a bracketed tournament to a dual tournament and, only having four or five kids, an invite like that doesn’t benefit us very much,” Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) wrestling coach Robert Riddle said. “So we were able to switch to the Thomas-Jackman Tournament in Green River which was a round robin bracketed tournament which lets the kids have more matches.” Before going to Green River on January 15 and 16, the team also went to the North Park Tria...

  • Panthers take down two

    Joshua Wood|Jan 19, 2022

The Saratoga Panthers stretched their legs this past weekend as they took on two non-conference opponents at home and on the road. Both games provided the Panthers an opportunity to get some time on the court and some points on the board ahead of this weekend's games against two conference foes. On Thursday, Saratoga hosted the Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) Miners at the Panther Den in an overwhelming win. Then, on Saturday, while the Panthers stalked to Rock River where they took...

  • Rattlers bite Tigers, Pronghorns

    Mike Armstrong|Jan 19, 2022

The Little Snake River Valley (LSRV) Rattlers played two tough teams this weekend and won much to the delight of Head Coach Jack Cobb. He knows the 1A Southwest Conference is loaded with excellent teams and, since only four can go to regionals, one good team will be left behind. He is hoping it won't be the Ratters and, after the weekend, he has a reason to be hopeful. The Rattlers are on a five game winning streak and two of those wins this weekend were in their conference. Their first test...

The Encampment Tigers were dealt another conference loss this weekend as they split their matches between a non-conference away game on Friday and a conference home game on Saturday. While the Tigers were able to deal a loss to the Rock River Longhorns, the following day the Little Snake River Valley (LSRV) Rattlers came into Tiger Nation and sank in their fangs. In the difficult 1A Southwest Conference, however, the Tigers can take some pride in they made a few scratches on LSRV as well....

    Staff Report|Jan 19, 2022

Balance is an important concept to Jeff Mincy.
