On Oct. 24, three men were arrested by county sheriff's in the McCarty Canyon area north of Savery, Wyo. for the alleged kidnapping of one victim, threatening that victim with weapons and possession of illegal drugs. Katherine M. Beckham passed away on Oct. 30, 2015 at the Saratoga Care Center in Saratoga at the age of 77. Katherine was born on Aug. 12, 1938, in Encampment. The daughter of Clifford and Irene Wombacker. She married George D. Beckham on Nov. 19, 1955, in Encampment. Her and George worked together for years building fences on ranches, and being caretakers at the Wyco Club and Cohns ranch on the river. Lorraine L. Cruse went to be with her Lord Jesus at 1:45 a.m., Sunday, Oct. 18 following a seven month battle of cancer. Lorraine was born in Studly, Kan., on Jan. 27,1924. Many citizens have complained publicly about the lack of daycare in Saratoga. Cooler weather and snow in the mountains has prompted fire crews to begin preparations for slash pile burning at multiple locations across the Medicine Bow and Routt National Forests (MBRNF)in Colorado and Wyoming. Hundreds of piles are estimated to remain on the two National Forests, even after multiple years of this type of work. The Saratoga Council of Catholic Women is sponsoring a community blood drive on Tuesday, from noon until 5:30 p.m. at St. Ann’s Parish Hall. The Platte Valley fall sports season ended with all kinds of results. Cross Country placed second in the state. Our football team did not make it to the post season. The Saratoga Lady Panther Volleyball team had a great season, made it to regionals and fought hard to stay in. The American Legion Auxiliary met at 6:30 p.m., Oct. 20, 2015 at the American Legion Post home. Seven members were present. Plans were made to present a flag etiquette program in the area schools for grades K-3 sometime during the month of November. Monday night children from the Platte Valley gathered to audition for “The Jungle Book.” Friday and Saturday, they will perform for audiences after only four days of play practice, thanks to the Missoula Children’s Theatre. The first performance is 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Platte Valley Community Center (PVCC). The second performance is at 2 p.m. Saturday at the PVCC. On Oct. 26 and 27 Carbon County Road and Bridge crews made repairs to Forest Service Road 261 (FSR 261) also known as the Cedar Pass road. During the rest of the week they removed trees around the Flying Diamond bridge on Carbon County Road 680, the Baggot Rocks road. Six cowboys from the Silver Spur Ranches - Headquarters will compete in the 20th World Championship Ranch Rodeo in Amarillo, Texas which will be held from Nov. 12 to 15. The ranch team members are Thad York, Colton Miller, Ridge Knotwell, Buck Marsh, John Love and Tyler McClellan. The I beams and stress iron on the west side gave away first and the bridge gradually went down until it rested in the creek, twisting nearly every iron in the structure.
