Maynard "Buck" Hoem passed away at the Deseret Health and Rehab Center on Jan. 3, 2015. Buck was born in Blair, Wis., the second of seven children to Iver and Tiller Hoem. Buck enlisted in the Navy in 1944 and served in the South Pacific during World War II. Upon a return from the war, he married Ardyce Mae Drangstveit in 1948 in the Plentywood, Mont. The fee for registering trailer houses increased effective Jan. 1, 2015. Cindy Baldwin, Carbon County Treasurer said campers, horse trailers and toy haulers with living quarters increased from a flat $15 state fee to a variable state fee, which could be up to $60 per year. This is the same fee scale that is already used for other trailers. The fee will be based on the manufacturer’s published weight, if available. Carbon County Undersheriff Archie Roybal stated that a loader was stolen from the Thompson Logging sawmill in Encampment early New Year’s Day. The incident was reported to police at approximately 2:30 p.m. on Jan. 1 after the driver of the loader lost control, damaged a residence and got the piece of equipment stuck in a ditch near 4th Street and McFarlane Avenue. Even though the Encampment boys finished strong, coach Clint Bromley said he thought both teams were a little out of sync coming out of Christmas break. Saratoga High School Girls’ Basketball coach Scott Bokelman is happy with the performance of his players over the holiday. The Lady Panthers (4-4) took third place at the Fremont County Tournament held Dec. 29 and 30 in Riverton, Wyo. “The kids responded well to (the win),” Bokelman said. It took a couple of games at the Fremont Tournament last week for the Saratoga Panthers (2-5) to shake the holiday break, losing two games in a row. There were four here for Bridge this week. We were open New Year’s Day and had a pretty good turnout for lunch. We delivered lunch to our homebound people as well.
