Miners honored and remembered

On November 22, the Town Council of Hanna approved the name enhancement of the building known as the Hanna Parks and Recreation Center to the Hanna Miner Memorial Parks and Recreation Center. 

Errata

In the story The wonder of the Crossing Cafe Trading Company, page 10 in the November 10 edition the owners last name of the Crossing Cafe is spelled Casner, not Kasner. The couple identified in the picture are actually Randy and Anna Shipman. The building currently housing the restaurant was built in 1932 after the first building was burned down. The Sun said the current building was built in 1895.

The Crossing Cafe Trading Company in Elk Mountain might not have regular hours exactly, because Nancy and Ken Kassner, sometimes take off during the day or evening to take care of other business.
"If you want to make sure we are open, people can call," Ken said. "We have hit an age where we do things like that."

Since 1987, Carbon County has had a two percent lodging tax in effect. An optional tax, it is voted on every four years and will be on the ballot November 8.
For 35 years, the tax has not increased, remaining at two percent. Sometimes, the status quo is good. Sometimes, growth is good.
