On November 6, the voters of Carbon County renewed the lodging tax in a strong manner. The tax was approved by 79 percent of the residents who voted.

Festival of Trees fills the coffers and dazzles attendees

According to Amanda Knotwell, the CEO of Saratoga/Platte Valley Chamber of Commerce, the 2022 Festival of the Trees Auction and Gala was a huge success. 
Knotwell said the event was sold out at 230 guests.Food was served by Sweet Marie's Bakeshop, with a wide variety of holiday inspired items.

A convenient cafe

Medicine Bow Crossing convenience store in Elk Mountain has a new look, but it is not apparent from the outside. Medicine Bow Crossing was established in the town of Elk Mountain about four years ago by Bill Jones, Cody Jones and Joyce Menke. Menke departed after about a year and father and son ran the business. The store had success but Bill Jones had to drive in from Laramie which was a challenge in winter.

Fitzsimmons settling in as new hospital doctor

"This is a sensational time to be associated with the opening of the North Platte Valley Medical Center," said Dr. Brendan Fitzsimmons, new medical director for the NPVMC. "It's exciting to see all the pieces coming together."

The Runaway Lunchbox opens its doors

"It started as an ice cream truck," said Michelle Wolfard when asked what led her to be the owner of a food truck. Wolfard had seen a modified golf cart that was turned into an ice cream vending trailer. She remembered loving those as a kid and thought it would be fun. Unfortunately, she missed out on buying that vehicle, but a couple years later her dream came true. Wolfard was able to purchase a trailer with a shed sitting on it.

Diggin' the Greens

Every year the Dirt Diggers Garden Club has a Christmas greens sale. All the items for sale are assembled by the members of the club using various ribbons, greenery and Christmas decorations. Centerpieces for the table or sideboard, swags and wreaths to hang will be available from $15 to $50.

Runner retires from RNB State Bank

RNB State Bank would like to thank Dan Runner for 27 years of dedication to the Saratoga community, the staff and the bank as he announces his retirement. Runner says that serving as Saratoga market president was more than a job, it has been a way of life.
