Getting his fix

The ceiling tiles have been replaced throughout Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) High School, along with air systems and ventilation. There were five contractors working on the building throughout the summer.
Harold Phillips, head of maintenance for northern Carbon County School District No. 2 (CCSD2), was basically the liaison between CCSD2 and the construction companies.

CCSD No.2 free lunches

Carbon County School District No. 2 (Elk Mountain, Encampment, Hanna, Medicine Bow and Saratoga schools) has announced its policy for free and reduced price meals for children unable to pay the full price of meals served under the National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program. Each school and the Central Administrative Office have a copy of the policy, which may be reviewed by any interested party.

Bow River top three percent

There was great news for the Bow River Future Farmers of America (FFA) chapter in Hanna. The team of Jolynn Borah and T’lysa Solaas representing the Bow River FFA chapter has been named a finalist this year in the Animal Science category in Division 2 of the competition.

School safety subject of summit

The Federal Commission on School Safety held its third listening session of four starting at 1 p.m. on Aug. 7 in Cheyenne to listen to speakers from several western states with many rural communities. Previous listening sessions have been held in Washington D.C. and Lexington, KY.

Hanna razes the roof

Harold Phillips, Director of Maintenance for north county Carbon County School District No. 2 schools said the Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) Middle/High School needed upgrades to improve safety for the students.
A new ventilation system in the metal shop was one of the new improvements done over the summer. There was also new lighting.

From teaching to turtles

When school begins on August 20 for the 2018-2019 school year, the halls of Saratoga Elementary School (SES) will be missing a longtime fixture of the building. After 17 years of service in Carbon County School District (CCSD) No. 2, LeAnn Uhling retired at the end of the 2017-2018 school year.
