Twenty-four third to sixth graders started off the evening Tuesday writing spelling words being spoken to them. After five rounds of ten words apiece, the 10 best spellers were selected to head into the verbal portion of the evening. Slowly the 10 were pared down by the up to 8th grade level words. The competition heated up as Haley Grubb, Aspen Sewell and Fischer Williams took turns at the microphone.

Bow River FFA show up at Nationals

T'lysa Solaas, a member of the Bow River chapter of Future Farmers of America (FFA) came in 8th in the Environmental/Natural Resources Systems category in the Division 1 of this year's FFA National competition.

The Native American way

Twelve years ago Shelley Cooper, a teacher at Medicine Bow Elementary School asked Kay Hunt to come and give a presentation to her students on Native American Day. Cooper knew Hunt was knowledgeable about the lore and culture of Plains Indians, but did not imagine that first year would turn into the educational activity it has morphed into.

CCSD No. 2 teachers tops in proficiency

Carbon County School District No. 2 (CCSD No. 2) Superintendent Jim Copeland had high praise for seven teachers in his district after the Proficiency Assessments for Wyoming Students (PAWS) results came out last week.

Saratoga student graduates from Fort Hayes State

Carl Nicholas Beach, of Saratoga, graduated from Fort Hays State University (FHSU), in Hays, Kansas, in the spring 2017 semester with a Master of Science in education administration.
FHSU does not release the lists of undergraduate and graduate degrees until transcripts have been verified as having met all requirements for graduation.
Fort Hays State is one of six public universities in the Kansas Board of Regents system.

Bike to School

Over 300 bike riders participating in the Tour de Wyoming cross-country bike ride called Saratoga home for two nights last week, not only taking in plenty of rest, relaxation and Valley hospitality, but also raising money for Saratoga Middle-High School (SMHS).
