"When Shelly finished her contract at Sinclair, the principal said she was the only teacher there that had never been any complaints," Jeanette Fischer, Medicine Bow resident and former teacher in Medicine Bow Elementary School (MBES) said. "The parents, the students, the school and community all loved her, just like they do here. She just has a way about her."

Thompson 'closes the book'

Kathy Thompson did not start out her professional career in library science or even education.
Thompson, who hails from Montana, studied restaurant management, received an associates arts degree and founded her own establishment in Ennis, Mont. Thompson said the town was a major fly fishing destination near Yellowstone National Park. She said the town’s economy was seasonal.

PVAC awards scholarships

Since 1993, the Platte Valley Arts Council has been enriching the quality of life in the area and expanding educational opportunities for all forms of the arts, whether it is music, literature, dance, visual arts or theater. It’s mission is: “to foster awareness of and participation in any form of the arts, with the aim of developing vibrant and cohesive communities.” The arts council’s purpose is to keep Art in our everyday lives.

Three school principal moves on

Traci Schneider came to the position of principal for the three northern Carbon County elementary schools this year planning to stay for many years. Unfortunately, although she had a job she loved, her husband couldn't find any position in Carbon County that compared to his job in Cheyenne. So the couple has been doing long distance for the past year.

Mr. Soto's Field Day

It is that time of year for the annual Mr. Soto Elk Mountain Elementary (EMES) and Medicine Bow Elementary School (MBES) Field Day.
On Friday, after the "Big Boy" train stopped at Medicine Bow for the students to see, the "Soto Field Day" started once the kids finished lunch. Traditionally the field day starts in the morning.

No Mo, no mo'

Nobody who has ever had Cheryl Munroe as a teacher calls her "Mrs. Munroe." Those who work with her don't call her "Cheryl." To students and staff alike, she has always been just "Mo." For 36 years, Mo has been teaching Family and Career Science at Encampment K-12 School, along with teaching at Saratoga Middle/High School (SMHS) for the 2018/2019 school year.
