Copeland listens to communities

Carbon County School District No. 2 (CCSD#2) School Superintendent Dr. Jim Copeland and Sally Wells, CCSD#2 Business Manager, went to the northern Carbon County communities of Elk Mountain and Medicine Bow last week to talk about their elementary schools.

SES dedicates Mason park

Last Friday, on a warm October afternoon, Carbon County School District (CCSD) No. 2 teachers and staff gathered on the west end of the Saratoga Elementary School (SES) at 3:45 p.m. to remember the late Annette Mason, a former teacher at SES. Mason, who taught for over 20 years, passed away in January following a lengthy battle with cancer.

CCSD2 expels student

The Carbon School District No. 2 Board of Trustees held a special meeting at noon on Oct. 22 as they discussed the expulsion of an unnamed student in executive session. Starting the meeting at noon, the board immediately entered executive session, which lasted approximately 45 minutes. Coming out of executive session, the CCSD No. 2 Board of Trustees made the decision to “adopt the findings of law” and expel the unnamed student.

SkillsUSA strides to new highs

On Thursday, Sept. 20, Saratoga Middle/High School (SMHS) students and staff presented a check for $25,000 to the Corbett Medical Foundation to go towards helping Valley residents diagnosed with cancer. The donation came out of the $32,500 raised by the students of SMHS and members of SkillsUSA in 2018, led by Saratoga technology teacher Scott Bokelman. The remainder was donated to the Wyoming Breast Cancer Initiative (WBCI).

Pioneer/plains playthings

Kay Grant has been educating students on life of the early pioneers and the Plains Indians culture for 13 years. She does this in a variety of ways, from using actual stone instruments used in day-to-day life to games and toys the children played with. She has a buffalo hide that has been on display for its tenth year and she has students scrape off a little hair with stone tools.

Getting his fix

The ceiling tiles have been replaced throughout Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) High School, along with air systems and ventilation. There were five contractors working on the building throughout the summer.
Harold Phillips, head of maintenance for northern Carbon County School District No. 2 (CCSD2), was basically the liaison between CCSD2 and the construction companies.

CCSD No.2 free lunches

Carbon County School District No. 2 (Elk Mountain, Encampment, Hanna, Medicine Bow and Saratoga schools) has announced its policy for free and reduced price meals for children unable to pay the full price of meals served under the National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program. Each school and the Central Administrative Office have a copy of the policy, which may be reviewed by any interested party.
