On July 16 at 12:05 a.m., Carbon Power & Light (CP&L) had scheduled a power outage for the Valley. The outage did not occur on time which caused concerns, especially for oxygen users. The 20th Annual Chili Competition will take place on Saturday, Aug. 15 at Veterans Island Park in Saratoga during the Microbrew Festival. The competition has gradually become more popular each year. Aug. 15 will bring the 20th Annual Steinley Cup Microbrew Festival to Saratoga. Brewers will compete to win the coveted Steinley Cup and vie for the “People’s Choice” award. On June 3, Saratoga welcomed a new business, Hot Diggidy Dog, to the Platte Valley. Susan Wallace and Ellie Hoyt joined forces to operate their hot dog business together. On June 27, 2015, Laurie Forster was elected as the first-ever female president on the Carbon Power and Light (CP&L) Board. There has only been one other woman on Carbon's Board of Directors besides Forster since the Board has been active beginning in 1941. The first female Board member on Carbon's Board was Jane H. The Saratoga High School volleyball team recently came together to help the community of Lusk, Wyo. in their time of need. The small town suffered a big flood in early June that destroyed property and caused residents to evacuate their homes. Our local high school volleyball team organized a way to help Lusk. This coming weekend the 55th Annual Woodchopper’s Jamboree will take place in Encampment, Wyo. Before this popular event occurs, you might be interested in brushing up your knowledge on the very first Woodchopper’s in 1962.
