Tigers travel to Indian invite

Encampment prequalifies two more for State

While they may have had a break from their curriculum this past week, the Encampment High school track team didn’t let that stop them from traveling to Ethete to attend the Wyoming Indian Invite on March 29. The team had originally been scheduled to compete at both Cheyenne South and Wheatland over the weekend, but due to weather and rescheduling, opted to go to the invite at Wyoming Indian.

“The Wheatland meet was changed to Saturday, April 7,” said Keegan Willford, head coach of the Encampment High School track team, “We will be attending that meet on Saturday instead of Guernsey.”

Willford added that, due to bad weather, the South Twilight invite had been canceled.

Tigers

Wyatt Cox prequalified for State in two more events over the weekend and placed in three events. Cox placed 2nd in shot put with a distance of 41 feet and 11.5 inches and 3rd in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.60 seconds. He prequalified for State in both events. Cox also placed 1st in discus with a distance of 119 feet and 9 inches.

Jarom Herring placed 1st in both the 800 meter run and the 1600 meter run. In the 800 meter, Herring finished with a time of 2:21 and finished the 1600 meter with a time of 5:10.

Dalton Peterson placed 2nd in discus with a distance of 99 feet and 7 inches and 8th in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.84 seconds.

Lady Tigers

Cheyanne Jordan placed 2nd in both shot put and discus over the weekend. In shot put, Jordan threw a distance of 33 feet and 6 inches and, in discus, a distance of 90 feet and 9 inches. Jordan placed just behind fellow teammate, Noelle Peterson, in both events.

Peterson placed 1st in shot put with a distance of 33 feet and 7 inches. Peterson, along with placing 1st in discus, prequalified for State with a distance of 98 feet and 1 inch.

Rachel Stubbs grabbed the 7th place spot in shot put with a distance of 25 feet and 5 inches and 5th in discus with 77 feet and 7 inches.

Amber Stubbs placed 1st in the 1600 meter run with a time of 6 minutes and 27 seconds.

Grace Tieszen placed 2nd in the triple jump with a distance of 28 feet and 5 inches.

The Lady Tigers also placed 1st in the 1600 meter sprint medley relay. The relay team, composed of Jordan, Tieszen, Lauren Buford and Amber Stubbs, completed the relay with a time of 5 minutes and 11 seconds.

“Only about one-third of our team competed in our meet over spring break. Regardless, our athletes competed well I thought. We had a few more prequalify for state and had some personal bests. This meet gave our athletes another opportunity to compete and work towards their goals for the season,” said Willford.

The track team will depart from Tiger Nation this weekend to compete at the rescheduled Wheatland Invite on April 7 in Wheatland.
