Tigers named All Conference, All State

As each sports season comes to an end, the Wyoming Coaches Association (WCA) and their sports representatives designate a coach from each class to nominate All-Conference and All-State student athletes. This year, Encampment has the honor of boasting one All-Conference basketball player and four All-State basketball players - two of them nominated for the second year in a row.

Wyatt Cox, senior, and Reid Schroeder, sophomore, were both named to the 2018 1A State Boys Basketball list for the first time this year. While it may be Cox's final year, he doesn't let that take away from the honor of being nominated.

"It feels great. All the work I've put in has paid off," Cox said.

Schroeder feels much the same way.

"The amount of work I've put in, to see it pay off now feels good," said Schroeder, "Makes the future look good."

Hailey Barkhurst, like Cox, is in her senior year and was nominated to the 1A Southwest Girls Basketball All-Conference list.

"It's an honor," said Barkhurst, "It's a proud moment to know that you are appreciated in what you do."

Paige Powell and Noelle Peterson, both juniors, were selected for the 1A All State Girls Basketball honors for the second year in a row.

"I feel extremely lucky to have that honor twice and still as a junior," said Powell, "I think there's a lot of real good players in our state that could  have deserved this honor as well. It's something to be proud of and something to work for."

Peterson echoed Powell's sentiments.

"I just feel really fortunate because there's so many good players especially, in our conference, that we get to play against," Peterson said.

Both the Tigers and Lady Tigers basketball players extended their gratitude to their coaches, their teammates and the community for the support through the season.
