Getting on the map

Saratoga town council hears report from police chief that GPS maps will soon show correct truck route through town

During their regularly scheduled meeting at 6 p.m. on Feb. 20 at the Saratoga Town Hall, the Saratoga Town Council was informed by Saratoga Police Chief Robert Bifano that he had been in contact with Garmin about updating their Global Positioning System (GPS) in regards to truck routes through town.

The system, which updates approximately three times a year, currently leads semi-trucks through the downtown area of Saratoga. Bifano told the council that when Garmin updates their maps in the next few months, the issue should be resolved.

In other business, the town council read and approved Resolution 2018-02. The resolution, written by town attorney Mike Roberts, allows the chief of police to set policy for the police department with the approval of the town’s governing body. Jon Winter, Director of the Department of Public Works, requested approval from the council to order more ice melt for the town plows. The council approved Winter’s request.

With Councilman Will Faust absent, Mayor Ed Glode asked for an update on Title 18 from Planning and Zoning Officer Dan Ferrin. Ferrin informed Glode that after the Saratoga Planning Commission meeting on Feb. 13, Faust was working on cleaning up the red lined code so the commission could go through the code, again.

Councilman Richard Raymer gave Glode updates on the airport board, landfill board and water and sewer joint powers board. In all cases, Raymer had nothing out of the ordinary to report.

Glode informed the council that they would be setting the schedule for the upcoming budget workshops at the next regularly scheduled council meeting.

With no other business to conduct, the council adjourned. The next Saratoga Town Council meeting will be held at 6 p.m. on March 6 at the Saratoga Town Hall.
