Week wraps well

Lady Miners go 1-3 in busy week that coach says prepares them for Regionals

Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) girls basketball team had three games in one week. Losing to Cheyenne East Sophomores 40-32 and Guernsey-Sunrise 48-42, the Lady Miners beat Saratoga 43-20 on Saturday.

"Having three games in a week was a great way to prep for the regional tournament," Jackie Jones, head coach girls basketball coach said. "We were competitive in all three games, but were able to only come away with one win."

She said with the point system for her conference, the Lady Miners earned enough points to seal the second place.

Jones said Amy Campbell had a tremendous week on the basketball court. Campbell had 29 points and 18 rebounds against Cheyenne East Sophomores. She also had 29 points against Guernsey-Sunrise and 15 rebounds. Campbell finished the week against Saratoga with another double-double, scoring 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Jones said Jessica Nelsen had the exact same stats in the Saratoga game that Campbell did.

"It was a tough week of basketball, but we ended on a strong note with an impressive defensive game as we were hosted by a much improved Saratoga team," Jones said.

The Lady Miners are going to Regionals Feb. 22-24 in Douglas where they will face the number three seed Hulett.
