Four Miner wrestlers head to State

Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) wrestling head coach Lyle Richardson said he was pleased how well his wrestlers did at the Regionals at Burns.

“We were led by Nick McDaniel and Jon Nelsen again and it has been nice to watch them perform this well at this time of year,” Richardson said.

Nelsen went 3-1 with 3 pins. He placed third in his weight class of 170 pounds.

“Jon had a good week of practice and it showed,” Richardson said. “It was nice that he drew well into his bracket, and performed well.”

Richardson said he felt the other coaches overlooked Nelsen at the seeding meeting where the wrestler was seeded sixth, but it all worked out.

McDaniel did well considering he had been sick the week before Regionals Richardson said.

“Nick was the victim of the flu and he missed some practice last week, and just made weight of 145 pounds,” Richardson explained. “He went 1-2 with a come from behind win.”

Miner wrestlers Robbie Marta and Adrian King also qualified to go to State.

State competition will be held in Casper Feb. 23-24.
