Saratoga Town Council hears CCEDC update on current county projects
The Saratoga Town Council met at 6 p.m. on Feb. 6 to take care of regular business and listen to Cindy Wallace, Carbon County Economic Development Council (CCEDC), executive director, give an update on current projects in the county.
She said the CCEDC has been working with several projects in the county.
“The big ones are the wind farm developments–especially around the Hanna and Medicine Bow area, and of course, the Chokecherry and Sierra Madre projects,” Wallace said. “It is amazing all the roads they have completed out by Chokecherry.”
Wallace said she went with the Wyoming Business Council to Montreal, for a wind energy show. She said Wyoming was the only state to have a booth at the show. She pointed out Wyoming is number 15 in the country as far as wind megawatts produced, but when all the wind projects that are forthcoming are completed in the next ten years, Wyoming will be number two.
Wallace said she had told the Economically Needed Diversity Options for Wyoming (ENDOW) representatives in a meeting that broadband in Carbon County needed to be stronger.
“As they set up committees to hear about what is needed, I think we need to get someone from this area on the committee that is talking about broadband in Wyoming,” Wallace said.
The council approved the participation in the renewal of the One Percent Sales and Use Tax (also known as the Fifth Penny Tax) on the Nov. 6 election ballot. Also approved was a $1,000 campaign contribution to Carbon County Council of Governments (CCCOG) as Saratoga’s share for the promotion of the tax renewal. All municipalities in Carbon County are being asked to contribute $1,000 for this fund to purchase posters, print ads, radio ads, fliers and other media to give information on the Fifth Penny Tax.
Richard Raymer, town council and airport board member, said the Airport Board voted to award Sage Engineering the contract to provide engineering services for Saratoga Airport/ Shively Field.
American West Construction was approved to be awarded the bid for water and sewer project.
The council went into executive session at 6:48 p.m and came out at 7:35 p.m. then adjourned without further business being conducted.
The next scheduled meeting is at 6 p.m. on Feb. 20 at the Saratoga Town Hall.
