Miners dig up 9 at Dogger

Team collects 9 points at meet with only 4 wrestlers

Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) High School wresting team went to the Dogger Invitational on Saturday in Lingle did not go quite as well as coach Lyle Richardson had hoped.

“We just made too many mistakes to be competitive,” Richardson explained.

There were 13 tough teams for the Miners to face and Richardson felt his wrestlers had not had their best showings.

“Jon Nelson wasn’t wrestling like his usual self,” Richardson said. “Nick McDaniel always gives a lot of effort but still is making costly mistakes.”

He said Robbie Marta had been nursing the flu and some injuries which Richardson acknowledged had Marta struggle.

“The bright spot was Adrian King, even though he didn’t win a match, he showed us a lot of determination,” Richardson said. “He fought off being pinned quickly and is showing us that he is determined.”

Richardson said having some time to rest before their next meet in Saratoga which was held Jan. 23 will help the team potentially have better results. After that, the team will head to the Southeast Duels on Feb. 3. in Yoder.
