Lady Miners split week

Lose to Rawlins sophomores, go 2-1 at Little 6 tourney

The Lady Miners met the Rawlins 10th grade basketball team on Jan 9 at and most players of Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) could not find a way to score against the Lady Outlaws.

"I do have to single out Taylar Scott for making 11 of the 14 points," Jackie Jones, head coach of the girls basketball team.

The Lady Outlaws won the game 39-14.

The Lady Miners didn't have much time to lick their wounds as they found themselves in Laramie at the Little 6 Tournament that was played Friday and Saturday.

The Lady Miners had much better games, winning two and losing a close one.

"The girls had a good weekend of basketball picking up two wins and playing tough in the loss against Arvada," Jones said. "Morgan Kenneda was very solid for us on defense."

Friday the Lady Miners played Midwest on Friday and beat the Lady Oilers 36-16. Amy Campbell scored 9 points, Scott 9 points, Madison Campbell had 6 rebounds and Kenneda had 5 rebounds.

Later on Friday, the Lady Miners played Meeteetse and won 39-23. The Lady Longhorns were no match for the Lady Miners as Amy Campbell had 13 points, 11 rebounds and 5 steals; Scott with 10 points, 4 steals and Kenneda 6 points, 7 rebounds and 8 steals.

"Amy Campbell and Taylar Scott did a great job leading us offensively," Jones said. "Junior, Taylee Widdison, played her best basketball of the season at the tournament and she contributed to each game with hustle and hard work to go along with her scoring and rebounding."

Saturday had the Lady Miners fight hard against the Arvada-Clearmont Lady Panthers, but did not come out on the winning side. They lost 30-22. Amy Campbell had 9 points, 13 rebounds and 7 steals and Jessica Nelsen had 4 points and 7 rebounds.

Jones is not looking back at the losses the past week other than to learn from.

"We have two very important conference games this weekend, and the girls will continue to show their improvement against Rock River and Guernsey," Jones said.

The Miners next game scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Jan 19 at Rock River.
