Insurance, smoke and water

UPRSWDD discusses possible smoke permit, bidding for lower insurance rates and water testing hold

Wednesday, at 7 p.m. the Upper Platte River Solid Waste Disposal District (UPRSWDD) met at the Encampment library for its first meeting of the year for 2018.

Leroy Stephensen led the board meeting in Randy Raymer’s absence and the routine business of paying bills and approving minutes was undertaken.

Susan Munson, MPM LLC, gave the site reports for Ron Munson, who was not present. She said because the burn piles were larger a smoke permit might be needed.

Transfer station renewal insurance rates have gone up to the point that comparison shopping is being done. At the next meeting estimates will be presented from different insurance firms being contacted.

Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) sent correspondence telling the board to hold off testing some wells around the transfer station.

“DEQ had not only wanted us to run some tests, but they also wanted a statistical analysis,” Stephenson said. “But now they sent this letter telling us they decided they don’t want the statistical analysis yet because they aren’t sure what classification our water weight is going to be.”

Until DEQ classifies the water weight, the statistical analysis can’t be done.

The next scheduled meeting is at 7 p.m. Feb. 7 at the Saratoga Town Hall.
