Vet Chefs get truckin'

Oliver Tanner first opened the Manley store in Hanna at Miner’s Plaza about a year ago. The store sells sporting equipment, rifles, bows and licenses for hunting and fishing. There are those in the community who knew Tanner was a chef from California who had done some catering around town, but it was not until May 5, his Grand Opening, his food became known to the public.

Tanner has not only arranged to have his food available at the Hanna Mart café area Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday between 1 p.m. and 7 p.m., but he also launched a gourmet food truck to roam Carbon County in the summer.

Tanner decided to give free samples away May 5. Those morsels were to show his talents not only as a chef who makes excellent burgers, but also the creations he offers for catering.

The public got to try split Jalapeño peppers stuffed with shrimp, veggies and cheese, Kahlua pork stomach bites, bacon wrapped shrimp, a variety of cheeses, sautéed pork wrapped in lettuce and a decorative fruit tray with fresh melons and strawberries.

The turnout was strong and soon the crowd wanted to try his burgers. The line formed as he offered 2x2 burgers (two patties), Conspiracy Theorist (build your own), Bacon Lettuce Tomato with secret sauce, soup, patatas bravas and fries.

The reception to Tanner’s food was a success.

“We have a best-kept secret in Oliver’s food right here in our town,” said Hanna resident Rose Dabbs.

Once he launches his truck outside of Hanna, it won’t be a secret any longer.
