At Tuesday’s Hanna Town council meeting, David Sutter explained the state of the flooding in the Water Treatment Plant and Marshal Jeff Neimark informed the town of a narcotic arrest outside of town and gave an update of the Bike Rodeo set for May 12.
Kelly Jones, of Hanna, allegedly attempted to distribute narcotics outside of town. Jones was arrested and Neimark gave his investigative information to the Sheriff of Carbon County. “This is more of an isolated incident and there is no indication of drug distribution turning into a problem for the town,” said Neimark.
The Marshal’s office is bidding on two police vehicles from Greenwood Village, Colorado. The Marshal’s office has seen the service records and the bid was $10,000 for both.
The Bike Rodeo will be May 12 at 9 a.m. at the Hanna Elementary School and Neimark is expecting about 80 participants, making it the largest Bike Rodeo in five years. Wal-Mart has contributed a boys and a girls bike to the event.
“Should be a lot of good safety learning and fun for the kids,” said Neimark.
Publics Work Director Larry Corko said a drain was put in at Fossil Court, work was being done on the Hanna Recreation Center’s roof and sewer lines were being flushed. He said more research was needed on the fire hydrants ports before utilizing them.
Sutter, in charge of the Water Treatment Plant, is trying to sort out a flooding problem in the facility. Eight inches of standing ground water is in the 10x8 foot vault.
“We need to get down there in the drain to see the problem,” said Sutter.
Vivian Gonzales, the Parks and Recreation Director, resigned from the Carbon County Visitor Council.
“I just have too much on my plate,” she said.
Gonzales told the town council that Utah Jazz Basketball was winding down and the Utah Bees baseball program would be starting in June. The newly revised Hanna Recreation Center policy and procedure manual is still being worked on..
In fall of 2010, Congress passed the Small Business Jobs Act, a $42 billion program which allocated $1.5 billion for states and cities to establish State Small Business Credit Initiative (SSBCI) programs. seventeen Wyoming municipalities formed a coalition to submit an application to the U.S. Treasury to bring these funds into their communities for local businesses. Hanna was one of the municipalities to take advantage of this and now the municipalities of Medicine Bow and Elk Mountain would like to be included. Negotiation of the boundaries is being considered by SSBCI.
Marsha Beals, director of Hanna Housing Board, talked to the council about working closer and keeping communication lines stronger. The interior of the housing board’s units need to refurbished and Beals is looking into the project’s cost.
Ann Calvert, new town clerk, said her training is going well and Gonzales, former town clerk, concurred. The town’s website, Hanna Headlight, is being worked on by the designer, but is still down.
The council approved the Local Liability Insurance for the fiscal year 2017-2018 and ordinance 375 on the second reading. Ordinance 375 is an ordinance designating the amount of general tax to be assessed, levied and collected for the fiscal year 2017-2018 on all taxable readland personal property within the town of Hanna.
Also there was approval on the first reading of ordinance 376 concerning the 2017-2018 Budget. The next Hanna Town Council meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. May 9, at the town hall.
