Poetry gets pulpy in Carbon County

To celebrate April as National Poetry month, Saratoga poet Kate Sherrod will be featured at two Carbon County events.

The first is a book release party at Laura M’s, where Sherrod and friends will read aloud selections from her new book, “Pulp Sonnets”, and sign copies of that and her earlier release, “Suppertime Sonnets”. The event celebrates the coming of spring and features a tea party with, as Laura M owner Laura Morrow put it, “refined refreshments.”

A copy of “Pulp Sonnets”, signed by everyone performing readings, will be auctioned off at the evening’s end. The proceeds from that will go to benefit the Platte Valley Food Pantry, of which Sherrod is a board member.

“Everybody is encouraged to wear their favorite hat,” Morrow added.

The celebration starts 4 p.m. Thursday, April 18 at the Laura M Gallery at 100 N. First Street in downtown Saratoga.

The second event is at the Carbon County Library in Rawlins where Sherrod will perform as a “poet in residence.” Sherrod will be accepting what she calls “Sonnet dares” (in which members of the public give her a topic and she composes a sonnet on that topic on the spot), reading from “Pulp Sonnets” and signing copies of both of her books. That event is starts 1 p.m. Friday, April 28 and runs until the library closes at 5 p.m.
