HEM jumping to get on track

After two Invitationals canceled, Miners get to Rock Springs

The Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) High School Miners track team went to Rock Springs on Saturday, to compete for the first time this season. Big Piney Invitational the previous week and Rawlins Invitational Friday, were both canceled due to inclement weather.

"We had a fantastic first meet," said HEM track coach Jackie Jones.

Jarrett Neimark qualified for state by winning the triple jump with a jump of 42' 4.75" and placed fourth in the long jump at 19' 7".

Conor McGraw qualified for state in two events. He came in second in the 110 hurdles with a time of 17.32 and placed fourth in 300 hurdles in a time of 43.96.

Shane McGraw qualified for state by placing fifth in the triple jump with a mark of 39' 9.50" and came in third in the 400 meters with a time 52.97. Tyler Goodro and Brandon Scott both had personal bests in different events.

Four girls on the HEM track team qualified for state by running the 4x800 relay in 11:36.71 placing third. The same girls placed fifth in the 4x400 relay with a qualifying time of 4:45.07. The team members were Cheyenne Tomkins, Jessica Nelsen, Taylee Widdison and Cloe Olsen. Cheyenne Hunter and McKenzie Finn had a solid day of throwing and are ready for upcoming meets said Coach Jones.

"It was a wonderful way to start off the Miner track season with so many athletes prequalifying or setting personal bests." Jones said. "Our work is just beginning so we are excited."
