BSB institutes new scholarship

Thrift store helps students earn money to further education, career

Bridge Street Bargains (BSB), the Saratoga thrift store, has created a new scholarship for graduating seniors at Saratoga High School and home-schooled students are also eligible.

Nancy Vargas, BSB board secretary and chairman of the scholarship committee, said students can earn up to $500 by participating in the store’s Student Volunteer Program.

To qualify for the newly -created scholarship, graduating seniors must complete 50 hours volunteer service at the thrift store and submit a 500-word essay detailing future plans and what he or she has learned through volunteerism, she said. The scholarship can be used for financial needs arising from college, community college, trade school enrollment or military service enlistment.

Through the Student Volunteer Program, students earn credits for hours worked. These credits may be used during the student’s’ school career for such things as athletic camps, Close-Up, conferences and conventions . Any credits not expended by the time the students graduate can be applied to the total scholarship award.

Applications are available at the store or through the high school counselor. The scholarship applications must be submitted by April 15 to the store or mailed to Bridge Street Bargains at P.O. Box 133, Saratoga, WY 82331
