Lady Tigers split weekend on road

The Encampment Lady Tigers (2-3 conference, 13-4 overall) not only won against Farson-Eden (0-5, 7-10), they played consistently through both halves, scoring 28 points in each half according to head coach Amy Clay.

“We played strong against Farson. We led them 28-25 at the half and outscored them 28-11 in the second,” Clay said. “It was a great team effort.”

Paige Powell was the high scorer against the Farson-Eden Pronghorns in the 56-36 win, with 14 points. Noelle Peterson and Cassidy Little each added 12 points to the board, while Alyssa Barkhurst scored 9 points, Hailey Barkurst had 5 points and Konnar Knotwell and McKenzie Powell each added 2 points.

Peterson and Little had strong showings at the line hitting 100 percent and Barkhurst sinking 50 percent of her free throws.

Peterson led in rebounds with eight, following by Powell with seven.

Against the Cokeville Panthers, the team lost by 8 points, but held Cokeville to 33 points in the 25-33 game.

“We had a 9-4 lead on Cokeville (4-1, 13-7) in the first quarter and were up 17-15 at the half,” Clay said. “A 2-point third quarter hurt us.”

The Tigers were outscored 18-8 in the second half.

“Our defense made big strides since the first time we played them (Cokeville) and our conditioning was better,” Clay said.

While the girls couldn’t miss in their free throws on Friday, Saturday was a different story. “We had our chances at the free throw line and failed to convert,” Clay said.

The team also struggled getting the ball in the basket.

Cokeville is ranked second in the conference and have traditionally played an aggressive game against the Lady Tigers. The Tigers hold the No. 3 spot in the conference.

Clay said she is pleased with the efforts. “We just have to make better passing decisions and take care of the ball against pressure defense.”

A. Barkhurst was the leading scorer in the game against Cokeville. She had 11 points and 10 rebounds. Peterson scored 6 points and had seven rebounds while Little and P. Powell each had 3 points. Powell also had seven rebounds. H. Barkhurst scored 2 points. Peterson was hitting 50 percent at the line making four of eight shots.

Last night the Lady Tigers played North Park in Walden, but results were not available as of press time. Thursday night is their last home game, which is against Rock River (13-5) at 4 p.m. in the Encampment gym.

Friday night is the Tigers last conference game before going into post season. They travel to Baggs to play the Little Snake River Valley (LSRV) Rattlers (4-1, 14-15), who are ranked No. 1 in the conference. Game time is at 4 p.m.
