Early morning blaze guts business

Cause of fire is still undetermined

Todd Hughes, owner of Hughes Manufacturing, was devastated Monday morning as he looked at the charred building that once housed his business.

"It has been here since the 90s," Hughes said.

Carbon County Fire Warden John Rutherford was investigating the cause of the fire as Hughes stood by.

Saratoga Volunteer Fire Department Fire Chief Randy Sikes said the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Hughes said he received a call from his son, Brian Hughes, alerting him of the fire at 4 a.m. The door was on fire when Hughes arrived. Hughes said he thought a steel door may have saved the building, but it was a wood door which had flammable liquids behind it.

Hughes said he was hoping to salvage some of his computers from the fire which also burned his mobile home next door. The mobile home was used as his office.

The Saratoga Volunteer Fire Department was called out to the fire 3:30 a.m. Monday morning. They had the big flames knocked out in one-half hour Sikes said. At 10:30 a.m., the fire department was still on the scene.
