Saratoga Town Council approves LiDAR survey

Technology to benefit town in flood mapping, master plan

The Saratoga Town Council approved the mayor to sign a contract for a LiDAR survey of Saratoga in the amount of $34,000. That amount will be divided between the budgets of the streets, water, planning and sewer departments. The amount taken from each department’s fund is $8,500.

The final product would depend on weather conditions, but is expected to be complete by the end of April.

Mayor Ed Glode explained to the audience that the LiDAR survey is an integral tool for updating the flood map for Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) as well as the master plan process.

Glode said it was his understanding if a construction company came in, they would no longer have to survey the ground, but instead use the LiDAR survey.

The LiDAR survey encompasses the Saratoga town limits and extends to the lagoon north of Saratoga, Saratoga Lake Campground, Sandy Beach and a little more of the Platte River. Glode said the survey would not include the runway at Shively Field as the Federal Aviation Administration has that taken care of with the airport master plan.

The square footage of the contract as amended, increased from $33,500 to $34,000 which added $500 to the original amount, Glode explained to the council before approval. The survey map with borders is on page 3.

In other business, Michael Farver introduced himself to the council as the Southeast Central Wyoming Emergency Medical Service (SCWEMS) representative for Saratoga. Farver told the council SCWEMS received a 50/50 grant to purchase two new ambulances. The grant will be used to purchase one ambulance and SCWEMS will purchase the other.

SCWEMS members are currently working on updating the standard operation guidelines (SOG).

Farver said SCWEMS is implementing an EMS Google online e-schedule for 24-hour community coverage.

He also noted the blue ambulance parked outside the SCWEMS building in Saratoga will be moved to Hanna for coverage there. Though Hanna is not a member of SCWEMS, Farver said the board wants every community covered.

Eighteen people have signed up for the Emergency Medical Response class, Farver reported.
